Meet Dr. Raquel Kirwin

Dr. Raquel Kirwin was raised in Jersey City, NJ by parents who immigrated from northwestern Spain. She graduated with honors from Rutgers University with her bachelor´s degree in Mathematics. She earned her Master of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology, Newark College of Engineering where she was asked to join the prestigious Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society. After having worked in several dental offices during her college years as a dental assistant, she decided to pursue a career in dentistry and obtained her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree in 2014 from Rutgers School of Dental Medicine.

She completed her one-year Advanced Education General Dentistry Residency Program at the Central Texas Veterans Healthcare System in Temple, TX, and studied complex surgical techniques, IV sedation, implant placement, emergency protocol, and treatment of medically compromised patients. After her residency, she received her certification and licensure with the state of Texas in IV sedation and moved to Laredo, TX, to work in the public health sector in the underserved areas. Her bilingual ability was particularly helpful when working in Laredo since most of her patients in those underserved areas were Spanish-speaking. After leaving Laredo, she continued her service in public health, working as a staff dentist at the El Paso Department of Veterans Affairs and at the Central Texas Department of Veterans Affairs in Temple, TX, where she had enjoyed her residency a few years back. In 2017, Dr. Kirwin decided to open her practice and returned to her favorite place in all of Texas, El Paso. She started to build Tierra Este Family Dentistry on the Far East side of town.

Dr. Kirwin is a member of The Academy of General Dentistry. She will receive her Fellowship Award next year and will pursue her Mastership with the Academy. She also belongs to The American Dental Association, the Texas Dental Association, the El Paso District Dental Society, the Thunderbird Study Club, and the American Orthodontic Society. Dr. Kirwin is committed to continuing education and takes many advanced courses each year to enhance her skills to serve the dental care needs of her patients better and provide them with a gentle and comfortable dental experience.

When not caring for patients, Dr. Kirwin loves spending time with her husband and their rescue pit bull, Coco Bean. Together they share a passion for animal rescue, particularly pit bull rescue, hiking in the Franklin Mountains, exploring West Texas and New Mexico, biking, cooking, and traveling back to New Jersey to visit their families.
